Toy Review: Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Wingfinger (Deluxe)

Review:
#707
Name:  Wingfinger
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Maximal
Line:  Generations - War for Cybertron:  Kingdom
Year of Release:  2021
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 3)
Mold Status:  new

BEAST MODE:

Wingfinger is a Fossilizer, and as such, transforms into a skeletal pteranodon.

This is definitely a unique beast mode but it pulls it off extremely well.

While you can stand him up, the stock photos have him lying down, which also works well.

Since it's a skeletal beast, naturally, it's not very big for a Deluxe, at least not in terms of mass.  It helps Wingfinger that he has a big wingspan to give the illusion that he's bigger.

Articulation is pretty good here, the feet are static, but you can free move the arms and open his mouth as well as turning his head.

A wonderful beast mode, and given that he's supposed to be a skeleton, the lack of colors doesn't matter much either.

TRANSFORMATION:

Wingfinger partsform, that's just part of the gimmick of Fossilizers.  To get him into robot mode, you split the arms out which form the robot legs, while the torso splits to form the arms, and the hands are from the beast mode's legs.  The beast head pegs onto a slot on his back and the head flips up from the torso.

ROBOT MODE:

The thing with the Fossilizer sub-type is how they have ugly robot modes to pair with the beast modes, but somehow, they are so unique that it just works.  Wingfinger is the best example of this.

He is extremely skinny, with a slender torso, yet it works fairly well and his proportions aren't that bad.

The head sculpt is good, although it would have been better if the helmet could have lift up further so that you can see his visor more easily.

As expected though, Wingfinger's robot mode shows off how he is definitely one of the Deluxes with the least value, at least in terms of the amount of plastic you get.  While he is taller than your average Deluxe, he doesn't have much bulk to him.

For articulation, Wingfinger has joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist (double jointed in fact), hips, knees and ankles.

Although annoyingly, the double joint waist makes it easy to rotate the wrong hinge (one of them has a 5mm peg on it) so that you end up having to adjust it time and time again.

He comes with two weapons, blades / swords formed from his wings in beast mode.

He can hold the weapons in either hand.

The twin blades look fantastic, and they look like proper weapons too.

Something that's cool as well is that you can have Wingfinger hold the blades in such a way that it ends up becoming a bow, although he lacks any arrows.

Despite being on "high heels", it isn't hard to keep him standing up when posing him.

The pteranodon head pegs on his back, however...

You can detach the head and have Wingfinger hold it to use it as a tonfa, which is pretty neat.

A surprisingly good robot mode, as long as you can accept its design.

FOSSILIZER MODE:

Wingfinger splits apart into many pieces in order to create weapons and attachments for other figures in the line.

The first form is a gigantic bow, you could see this coming given that he has a smaller version of it in robot mode.

In the instructions, his default pairing is with Earthrise Wheeljack (who was re-released in the Kingdom line in the same wave as Wingfinger).  As per usual though, it's better to pair with a Voyager as the weapons modes are usually too big for Deluxes.

The other form is a winged backpack and a handheld weapon that's like a hammer.

The winged backpack looks awesome, especially given the skeletal theme, while the hammer is passable.

OVERALL:

Wingfinger is a neat figure and provides heaps of play value, especially if you have at least one other figure in the line that's compatible with his weapon modes.  While he doesn't provide the best value in terms of size, it helps that he makes some of it up with the charm of his unique design.
