Toy Review: Transformers Earthspark Bumblebee (Deluxe)

Review:
#757
Name:  Bumblebee
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Earthspark
Year of Release:  2023
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 1)
Mold Status:  new

ALTERNATE MODE:

The Earthspark incarnation of Bumblebee has him transforming once again into a sports car.  This time however, he has a more aggressive design.

The rear is okay, with the taillights being painted, but the exposed robot parts in the middle lets it down somewhat.  The rear is huge as it sticks out from the rest of the car, so it can look a bit weird.

In terms of size, Bumblebee is okay, it's a tad bit lighter than what you'd expect of Deluxes though.

The robot weapon can peg onto the roof and integrates fairly well there, surprisingly, it does look like an exposed engine block.

As part of the build-a-figure gimmick, he comes with the right arm of Mandroid.

This is an okay vehicle mode, the sports car had potential to be good but the huge blocky rear design isn't too great.

TRANSFORMATION:

There's nothing special with the transformation, the back unfolds to form the legs.  The front split sand rotates into the shoulders and arms.  Whereas the rest of the car folds up into various panels stacking on top of each other on his back.

ROBOT MODE:

Bumblebee's robot mode is nice, but there are still issues, such as the thin and awkward looking legs.

He has a fair bit of kibble but they're all compressed into his backpack so it doesn't get in the way at all.

The head sculpt is fine, it's not as cartoony as you would expect.

He's a bit of a letdown in sizing in robot mode as well, given that he's even smaller, and feels even lighter, than Siege Sideswipe.

Poseability is fine, with joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

He comes with a weapon, a stinger blaster.

The blaster attaches and covers his fists, so it looks like his hand morphed into it.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look impressive as a weapon as all, and actually looks like it was tacked on.

The stinger can peg onto the backpack as storage.

A weapons effects would have helped a lot in making the weapon seem formidable, as it is, it's neither here nor there.

Bumblebee really isn't too bad but he just feels unremarkable.

OVERALL:

Bumblebee is an okay figure.  His vehicle mode is functional, as is his robot mode.  It's just a shame that a bit more effort wasn't given to really make him stand out as the design of the character had potential.
