Toy Review: Transformers Generations Legacy Breakdown (Deluxe)

Review:
#759
Name:  Breakdown
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Decepticon
Line:  Generations - Legacy
Year of Release:  2023
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 4)
Mold Status:  remold of Legacy Wild Rider

VEHICLE MODE:

Breakdown transforms into a sports car with red and blue highlights.

There are no gimmicks in this mode, and he's pretty solid as a vehicle.  There are no exposed robot parts either.

He's a good size for a Deluxe figure, above is a comparison with TLK Bumblebee.

The biggest complaint that people have is that Breakdown is a remold of Wild Rider, and in vehicle mode, the only difference is the remolded back.  This is somewhat interesting as remolding the front would have differentiated him a lot more.

The robot weapon can store underneath the car, out of sight, which is neat.

Despite the lack of resemblance with his G1's vehicle, this is still a fairly solid vehicle mode.

TRANSFORMATION:

He transforms exactly the same as Wild Rider, and so the windshield and hood folds back.  The arms lift from the sides, and the legs unfold from the back.  It's a simple transformation but the way the tabs come together may make it a bit annoying when going between the two modes.

ROBOT MODE:

Breakdown looks fairly good in robot mode too but he has some proportion issues.

He carries a substantial backpack, being the car's windshield and hood.  The hood can split into three pieces to help make it less bulky but that presents its own problems.

The head sculpt is nice, it's painted blue with a red face and yellow eyes.

Despite being a decently sized vehicle, he's on the shorter side as a robot.

The other bit of remolding here is the head, and also the chest.  With the contrasting color schemes, Breakdown looks quite different compared to Wild Rider.

If you didn't like how the hood uselessly splits into three to make the kibble even more visible, you can keep it folded up.  This isn't ideal either as the hood is a huge piece and dominates.

Articulation is fine, with joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

He comes with two weapons, a gun, and the vehicle's spoiler.

The gun itself is fine and looks great.

It's the spoiler piece that's iffy.  You have to detach it to transform, and there are no other places for you to store it in robot mode.  Breakdown is supposed to hold it like a boomerang weapon or a shield, but it looks completely stupid, and is such a tacky "feature".

Officially, the spoiler can peg into the gun and Breakdown can hold it like an axe weapon, but again, this doesn't look great.

Ignoring the cheesy spoiler weapon, this is a good robot mode.

OVERALL:

Love it or hate it, Breakdown is required as the fifth and final member of the Stunticons that you'll need to form Menasor.  On his own, Breakdown is somewhat average, not great, but not bad either.
