Review: #304
Name: Windblade
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Autobot
Line: Robots in Disguise (2015)
Year of Release: 2016
Size Class: Legion (Wave 6)
Mold Status: new
JET MODE:
Based from the fan-built Transformer, Windblade transforms into a red jet, with VTOL turbines on each wing, although they are a solid wheel now instead of molded fans.
This is actually a decent jet mode. Even Deluxe classed jet Transformers have undercarriage kibble but Windblade manages to avoid that.
There's no play value though and her head does peek through the bottom. She is lacking sculpted details which makes her a bit plain in this mode.
Due to her small stature in robot mode, she feels very small and tiny, even more so when compared to previous Legend classed figures.
Not a bad little jet, but it is just that, Windblade is a bit too little.
TRANSFORMATION:
Extremely simple, you fold back the cockpit, fold up the wings which brings the arms up and split the back to form the legs. Nothing much you can do since the design is pretty complex to begin up and the fact that they could accommodate that into this size is ambitious.
ROBOT MODE:
Windblade's robot mode... is lacking and looks horrid to be perfectly honest. From her very first reveal she seemed like a KO. She looks slightly better in person, just slightly though.
Nevertheless, it's surprising that they managed to make the robot mode so stable even with her high heels. The tailfins serve as excellent heelspurs.
The headsculpt is okay, it's hard to really make such a detailed head design this small so her face is lacking the blue stripes. Still, it's probably the most detailed painted area of the robot.
She is still quite small in this mode, however, it is her thinness that gets to you, she does not feel solid in your hands.
Theoretically, her articulation is good, with shoulder and hip balljoints, and a hinged knee. In actuality, none of those joints are practical or useful since due to the way the shoulder joints are attached, you can only lift them forward.
Her legs on the other hand are limited by the outward range of the hips, which are surprisingly restricted.
Not a strong robot mode, it is just passable.
OVERALL:
Windblade is a mediocre toy. She has a nice jet mode but the robot mode lets the whole figure down. It is still a nice representation of the character, and works to some degree. She is recommended only if you can find her cheap or you really like the character or design.
