San Andreas (2015)
San Andreas is a disaster film, set in San Francisco. Dwayne Johnson stars as Ray, an emergency helicopter pilot. Massive earthquakes hit Los Angelos and later, San Francisco. Lo and behold, of course the daughter of one of the only people who can save her is in San Franciso at the same time as the earthquakes hitting. Thus begins the race for Ray to save his daughter. The film starts off well enough but later the events that unfold become more and more unrealistic. As you'd expect, the main characters would have died multiple times already, or at least debilitated. Nonetheless, Ray will end up piloting helicopters, stealing cars, boat and even a small plane on his quest to travel to San Francisco to save his daughter. The movie is heavily reliant on special effects and most of the time, they are done well and looks great. The other times the speed at which things collapse or fall makes it seem unrealistic. The writers also added in the subplot of a stepdad and imminent divorce between Ray and his wife. This felt superficial and did not add much to the story, especially with how the stepdad acts and the way they resolved it. Overall, as a disaster film, there are worse out there and San Andreas is entertaining for the most part.
