Book Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin Volume 2

Review:  #651
Title:  Mobile Suit Gundam:  The Origin Volume 2
Series:  Mobile Suit Gundam:  The Origin - 2nd volume
Author:  Yoshikazu Yasushiko
Read Before:  no
Comments:  The second volume of the The Origin wonderfully depicts Char’s true nature and how manipulative he can be.  After the White Base being forced off-course into Zeon territory into Earth, they struggle to return to Jaburo where they can be safe.  Amuro remains the pilot of the prototype Gundam but unfortunately, the volume marred by his erratic behavior.  He often secludes himself and refuses to fight.  It is not explained very well why he is acting this way.  You get some idea that he is scarred from the killing and fighting he has had to do, but it isn’t enough to explain why he is so rude to even his best friend who cares for him.  The other side are the refugees, whereby the crew of the White Base is doing their best to keep everyone alive, the refugees are not cooperating and demanding to be left off.  Again, their actions are somewhat explained but it doesn’t feel like it justifies the annoyance and frustration the reader also feels.  The volume ends on a great note with an exciting battle and heavy consequences.
