Book Review: Code Name Flood
Review: #806
Title: Code Name Flood
Series: Edge of Extinction - 2nd book
Author: Laura Martin
Comments: Continuing pretty much straight after the first book, Code Name Flood has Sky and her companions reaching the point on the map that her dad had marked. Set in a world in the future where humans had brought dinosaurs back to life and going out of control. The dinosaurs have taken over the world and the remnants of humanity have taken shelter underground, or so Sky was led to believe. More surprises about the pockets of humanity that still exist topside are revealed to Sky and the purpose of her dad’s mission is finally revealed. It is nothing too exciting but gives everyone a renewed sense of purpose. Unlike the first book, the atmosphere of mystery and discovery of how the topside with roaming dinosaurs now works is lacking here. Rather, it is focused entirely on the plans that Sky and her companions make in order to prevent the Noah from effectively destroying her world. It is a lot more action oriented and while it is still intense, it is missing the intrigue that made the original so addictive. The way the plot is wrapped up is satisfying and it wraps up all of the plot threads, while not tying itself down as the final finale to the series. The novel doesn’t do anything extremely clever or new since none of the plot developments will surprise you, but the skill of the author still makes this a fun read.
