Toy Review: Transformers Robots in Disguise (2015) Twinferno (Legion)

Review:  #427
Name:  Twinferno
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Robots in Disguise (2015)
Year of Release:  2017
Size Class:  Legion (Wave 13)
Mold Status:  new

JET MODE:

Twinferno transforms into a stealth bomber that has a red-orange-ish color scheme.  The most distinctive (and most unrealistic) element are the dragon heads on either side of the cockpit.

The back is fairly gappy as they are formed from the robot legs and there is nothing in between the two to cover the gap.

Twinferno is wider than you'd expect.  The sculpting is pretty good.  Above is a comparison against RiD (2015) Legion Grimlock.

The color scheme and dragon heads definitely do not lend to your typical stealth bomber and thus, Twinferno is a bit weak in this mode.

TRANSFORMATION:

When the Warrior class figure has a simple transformation, was it really so surprising that this Legion figure has pretty much exactly the same?  The dragon heads fold out to the side to form the arms, flip the cockpit it and then extend the legs.  It works well for a figure this size.

ROBOT MODE:

Twinferno's robot mode is pretty good surprisingly, the wings are on hinges such that you can fold them back out of the arm's way.

There's not much kibble to speak off.  There are various silver and gold highlights which helps break up all the red.

The head is quite small but the sculpting clear defines the relatively simplistic head design.  Naturally, the head is fixed and cannot move at all.

Size-wise, he is a little bit shorter and slimmer than the earlier RiD (2015) Legions.

Poseability is limited, more than what you would expect from looking at the figure.  He lacks elbow and knee joints, having only balljointed shoulders and hips.

However, thanks to transformation, he has an elbow swivel and this helps in giving him some more variety when posing.

A decent robot mode and is as accurate to the design as the larger Warrior figure was.

OVERALL:

Twinferno is a great little figure.  The simplicity works at this scale and the alternate mode's cheesiness is easier to overlook.  Being the last figure in the line, he may be somewhat harder to find but is worthwhile to buy if you do see him.
