My Comments: Not a very strong start to the series, but thankfully, the latter books improves a lot. The biggest thing that drags this book down is that a lot of time is spent on explaining, describing and showing character traits and the general background. The effect of this is that the plot is generally not as fast paced, and loses itself a bit at times. I find it hard to believe that one family managed to infiltrate the whole world with their genius offspring’s, and that in the whole history, everyone who has been famous or successful is part of that family. This is not to mention the clues, it’s good in theory, but the way it was executed here is lacking the mystery and revelation feeling. At the end of the book where usually the author reveals all the hidden meanings of the puzzle and clues, it doesn’t really click and give you a sudden clarity on everything, thinking how ingenious the author had worked on the clue. There’s none of that here, and that is the biggest thing dragging the book down.
