The change in tone compared to the previous two films was for the better, since it made it less boring and easier to sit through the two hours. It's still overly long and bloated mind you, they could have cut a few scenes make the pacing better. Then on the other hand, there were some moments where it was so cheesy and out of place that it ruined the moment. The thing that's noticeable here is that there's a lot of explosions and action scenes. The two villains are pretty interesting although Two-Face feels underdeveloped since he just appears right from the start, already hating Batman and wanting to kill him. The Riddler's fate at the end wasn't explained that well and the overall plot of the story isn't exactly the best. It's vague and lacking a clear motive. All we know is that the Riddler's scheme was to absorb information from other people's minds. Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne/Batman was pretty good. The subplot of Bruce reflecting on his parents' death was somewhat boring, and felt like it had been done already back in the first Batman film. Robin felt forced and very like the annoying sidekick character you've feared. The climax wasn't as spectacular as it could be. The expectation was high since it started off so well with Batman and Robin heading into battle but the events that happened were bland.
