Godzilla (2014)
A reboot of the Godzilla film franchise, at least in the Western world, released in 2014. It tells the origin of Godzilla and without spoiling it too much, instead of viewing Godzilla as the antagonist and monster, destroying cities, it gives the view that Godzilla may be helping us instead. This was a surprise especially since the trailers showed Godzilla destroying stuff and humans running away from him. The film's first half is mostly set up with very rare appearances of Godzilla or otherwise. The plot has some interesting elements, especially with the origins of the Godzilla, his role in nature and how it all fits together. It was good that the film never degraded to just another military vs. monster type of thing. As is common nowadays, the film follows the perspective of several characters although the one involving the protagonist's wife and son is a bit superficial and doesn't add too much into the story. The plot seemed to be building up to a massive climax but what we got in the end and how the final battle was resolved was quite anti-climactic, at the very least, we did not get some epic fight scenes. One thing that is always annoying is the need to keep such a huge portion of the film at night, without much lighting. While it may build atmosphere it obstructs so much of the view that is can get frustrating. Overall. Godzilla was a enjoyable with a decent plot which keeps your attention.
