Toy Review: Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Sky Reign
Review: #320
Name: Sky Reign
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Autobot
Line: Generations - Combiner Wars
Year of Release: 2016
Size Class: N/A
Mold Status: N/A
COMBINED MODE:
The torso of Sky Reign is formed by Sky Lynx and officially, he is supposed to be formed of Hound, Smokescreen, Wheeljack and Trailbreaker but since it's not part of the original G1 canon anyway, not much different.
Sky Reign looks better combined with the Aerialbots anyway. Officially, the front of the shuttle sticks out underneath but you can fold out of sight onto his back.
The headsculpt is fantastic and it's a clever idea to use the lynx mode of the original toy as the inspiration for this combined mode. The head is on a swivel along with the blue collar.
In terms of size, naturally he towers over Voyager classed figures.
He is approximately the same height as other Combiner Wars figures such as Defensor.
This is one of the best looking combiners with a fantastic chestplate and the wings on his back adding a great heroic silhouette.
Unfortunately, Sky Lynx's ratchets are weak and this translates over to Sky Reign being a bit unstable when posing him. He has no problems standing or holding his pose, it's when you fiddle around, his limbs might flop due to the weight.
His weapon is formed by combining the two swords together to create a longer sword that doesn't actually look too bad (unlike Defensor's long thin gun).
He can hold the weapon in either hand and the thigh swivels are a major boon in terms of poseability.
Obviously, you can mix and match any other Combiner Wars Deluxe figures. The colors work really well though. Note effectively the whole torso is the underside of Sky Lynx's shuttle mode.
A great combiner and one of the best in the line.
OVERALL:
Sky Reign is one of the best looking combiners in the line. Since Sky Reign isn't based on any existing combiner, the designers has the freedom to make him look however way they liked and the end result is fantastic. He has meaningful poseability and the torso holds together well even though nothing is locked into place. This mode is just a bonus of Sky Lynx but it is a very nice bonus indeed.
