Seventh Son (2014)
Seventh Son had a lot of the elements to make a great fantasy film, unfortunately, it is hampered by poor writing, pacing and screenplay. It had a fairly strong start, stirring up your interest but it very quickly became another generic fantasy film. The plot is around Spooks who eliminate witches and other supernatural monsters that are attacking human settlements. Gregory, a Spook, takes on an apprentice in order to defeat one of the most powerful witches, who has returned after escaping from her imprisonment. Of course, the apprentice is the chosen one and he falls in love with another witch who just so happens to be one that is willing to betray her kind. There is a heavy reliance on special effects which aren't that great sometimes. By the time the hour mark comes around, you would have already lost interest twenty minutes ago. The plot is very formulaic and the finale isn't engaging. A lot of the dialogue is bland and Seventh Son doesn't bring anything new to the genre.
