Gipsy Avenger is the upgraded form of Gipsy Danger in the sequel Pacific Rim Uprising.
Unlike the first movie where NECA released the giant robots in toy form, this time it is Japanese toy company Bandai.
As a result, Gipsy Avenger is less gritty and a lot more articulated than the first movie's figures.
There are plenty of fantastic sculpting which helps bring the figure to life. The headsculpt is a bit flat compared to the film.
The plastic used has a shiny surface and while he does have a lot of painted highlights, most of the figure is unpainted.
A quick size comparison, he is taller than a typical Transformers Deluxe.
However, when compared to the first movie's figures, he is a lot shorter and less bulky while having a higher price. It is this smaller stature that works against the figure since it lacks the size to look imposing as the giant robot it should be.
One of the benefits of Bandai designing the figures is that Gipsy Avenger is crazy poseable yet still feels very solid at the same time.
It comes with a few accessories. A pair of extra hands (open palm), his plasma cannon and his sword.
In order to attach the plasma cannon, you need to detach his right forearm and replace it.
The forearm is on a peg joint so is quite easy to swap over and not likely to do any damage from excessive force.
The cannon itself is made of softer smokey translucent blue plastic and looks great.
Similarly, swapping the hands is as easy as popping it out of the balljoint and then popping the alternate piece in.
Yet because it uses such tiny balljoints, it can feel loose and wobbly.
Attaching the sword is exactly the same, you need to detach the left forearm to peg this alternate piece in, and then pop the fist on.
The sword is a soft plastic for durability reasons.
Gipsy Danger has double joints for his elbows and knees, although if you bend them completely (almost 180 degrees), it exposes those joints and makes it look weird.
When grouped along with the rest of the Jaegers from the film, they are fantastic as a set.
Of course, if you have Obsidian Fury, you can recreate some of their scenes where they faced off against each other.
Note that straight out of the packaging, you will need to attach the two pieces that forms Gipsy Avenger's backpack.
The shoulder pegs can also move around to allow the shoulders free movement. Basically, any pose you can think of, Gipsy Avenger will most likely be able to pull it off, provided you're happy to carefully get the balance right.
Gipsy Avenger looks awesome and is faithful the film's design. Thanks to its impressive articulation, the figure is a ton of fun.
OVERALL:
Gipsy Avenger is an excellent action figure, albeit a fairly pricey one. Nevertheless, it'll look great on your shelf. The figure includes the Gipsy Avenger's significant weapons and is an all-round enjoyable figure.
