Exodus: Gods and Kings
Exodus: Gods and Kings is a movie inspired by the Bible story of Moses leading the Hebrews from Egypt. It is a loose retelling, being more grounded in reality but still managing to keep the fantastical elements such as the parting of the Red Sea. Exodus starts off strong, with Moses being a General of Egypt, slowing losing favor from Prince Ramesses as others cast doubt upon him. You can tell where it is going, being the classic plot of two comrades doubting each other and eventually becoming sworn enemies. It slows down by around the one hour mark with a lot of despair and merciless deaths. As the battle wages on, supernatural elements comes into play such as the Nile turning red, locusts invading and eating all the crops. While the objective was to have the people of Egypt rise up against their Pharaoh, it never reaches that point or at least the impact is never fully felt. Overall, it was a decent film with some food for thought, interesting scenes and an engaging story.
