TANK MODE:
Megatronus transforms into a H-shaped tank with the main colors being purple, grey and black. There are sculpted missile pods on top of each of the tread but these are left unpainted.
I would love to say that this is a good tank mode but that would be lying. While it is passable and does look decent from certain angles, there are some big flaws.
First of all is the hollowness of the figure. He doesn't have much weight or sturdy feel to him, thanks to the hollow pieces wherever possible and the fact that the pieces are spread out.
Megatronus is basically comprised of treads and a small turret. His biggest problem is that he doesn't feel substantial enough.
In terms of size, he appears to be approximately the same as other Deluxes, but he does feel a lot lighter than even the shrunken Deluxes of nowadays.
The turret is mainly comprised of a giant cannot, with a blade attached to the end of it. It can rotate 360 degrees although a piece below gets in the way so you will need to wiggle it a bit.
The other piece of play value comes from rolling him across the surface as he has some small plastic wheels beneath the sculpted treads.
This is easier the weaker mode, it is not bad in concept but the cheapness ruins what should have been a big, bulky and heavy tank.
TRANSFORMATION:
Getting Megatronus to robot mode is very easy but there is one clever piece to the transformers. His legs are formed by the treads but it is basically three pieces which fold into each other to form the shins and then the kneecap. It is elegant and works extremely well. The turret then splits in half to form the arm which isn't that interesting. The leg transformation saved the figure, you don't even notice that the feet forms the outside of the treads in tank mode!
ROBOT MODE:
Megatronus' robot mode is buff and looks extremely powerful with the broad shoulders and chunky legs.
He lacks kibble although there are some pieces sticking out of his waist for some reason. You can also see the extreme lengths Hasbro went in hollowing out the limbs wherever possible.
The headsculpt is good and unlike the Clash of the Transformers figure, he sports a face this time.
In terms of size, he looks about the same as a Deluxe figure but once again, it should be reinforced that he feels much lighter and hollower.
Poseability is standard, there are no standouts here. He has a waist swivel though. His elbows are also faux-ratchets but they are tight and click when you bend them.
The large feet helps stabilize him and makes posing him easy. The shoulder pads are also individually adjustable compared to the shoulder joint itself.
In terms of a weapon, Megatronus only has a short spear with the blade painted in purple.
He can hold it in either hand but lacking a wrist swivel means that his potential is limited.
While he doesn't have many paint applications, what is there is used appropriately and makes highlights the important sculpted details.
A good robot mode and worth the somewhat disappointing tank mode.
OVERALL:
Megatronus is one of the better toys in the Warrior size class of the RiD (2015) line. However, compared to the concurrent Generations toyline he is lacking in many departments. Despite that, this is still a solid figure and worth a purchase if you are a fan of the character or design.
