Toy Review: Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Blackarachnia (Deluxe)

  #664
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Maximal
Line:  Generations - War for Cybertron: Kingdom
Year of Release:  2020
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 1)
Mold Status:  new

BEAST MODE:

Blackarachnia transforms into an organic black widow spider and this is a really good spider mode.

Naturally for a slender spider that transforms into a robot, all the mass is in the center and there are chunks of kibble underneath.  However, it is actually compacted fairly well here and not too obtrusive given the size.

Being a spider as well as a female Transformer, Blackarachnia is fairly small for a Deluxe figure, above is a comparison against TLK Bumblebee.

The spider legs are jointed in two places, although the two legs will share the same joint that connects it to the body.  Still, this gives you enough freedom for some spider poses.

One of the most impressive thing about this figure is how well the robot parts store in spider mode.  There are grooves with the legs that perfectly snap the arm claws into place, and the gun pegs securely on top.  This is something that even the Masterpiece figure could not do as elegantly.

As part of the Kingdom line, Blackarachnia will come with a random card / sticker.

This is an impressive beast mode and while yes, there are compromised, it's acceptable at this size and price point.

TRANSFORMATION:

This is also where Blackarachnia shines in terms of elegance and simplicity.  The legs unfold from underneath, as does the arms.  At the same time, you flip the head out and the black panels that form the spider's body fold up as a backpack.

ROBOT MODE:

The robot mode is equally as good as the beast mode, if not better.  This is a very show accurate Blackarachnia that we never had during the show's original run.

There are no kibble on this figure at all.  The legs are technically kibble but her show model also has this so it doesn't really count.

The head sculpt is okay, there's something that's just a bit off, maybe it's the eyes or the lips.

In terms of size, she is approximately the height of an average Deluxe but of course, a lot more slender.

Articulation is decent, she has joints for her head, shoulders, elbows, claws, hips, knees and ankles.

There are a few different ways that you could fold the spider legs, it just depends on your preference.

She comes with a gun that's inspired by the original, although this is a solid piece, lacking a launcher gimmick.

Her claws are molded in such a way that she can easily hold the gun.

The focus over recent Generations figures to include ankles tilts does wonders in making the figures a lot more stable when posing.

You can also pose the spider legs in such a way to replicate its usage as guns in the show.

This is a gorgeous robot mode.

OVERALL:

Blackarachnia is a fantastic figure.  It is impressive that she has two great modes, and a lack of kibble in both.  She's slender and light, but you don't feel ripped off just because she is so well engineered.
