Toy Review: Transformers ROTF Scrapper

Review: #19
Name: Scrapper
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Decepticon
Line: Revenge of the Fallen
Year of Release: 2009
Size Class: Legends
Variations: There is a TakaraTomy (i.e. Japanese) version and a Hasbro version, and both companies repainted it into G1 green and purple

VEHICLE MODE:

Scrapper transformers into a yellow front load shovel, for the size, it's a great little vehicle mode. The only paint that breaks up the yellow are the blue windshield and some black bits at the back.

A lot of sculpted details are presents, just not the paint to bring it out. From the back, you can see the connector port for the combined mode. All four wheels roll and you can marginally lift up the shovel, but not in a realistic way, not that you would expect it could being such a small toy.

The main issue I have with the vehicle mode is the protruding back, from an aesthetics point of view, it 'unbalances' the figure. It should really only be half as long, but since it's required for Scrapper's other modes, it can be forgiven.

TRANSFORMATION:

A very simple transformation, a minor trick is needed to get the arms out as they get caught by the legs. Probably one of the least interesting transformations of the set.

ROBOT MODE:

Scrapper is one of the tallest legends sized figures I have, and he towers over the other Constructions (Rampage comes the closest in terms of head height). It is a great robot mode, and the most poseable out of the set, with balljointed elbows, hips and ankles.

He is still in need of paint, with the only additions being a painted red visor and a strip of black on his chest. You need to get the right balance as his legs, being made from the shovel, making him fairly easy to fall down backwards.

He has three fingers or claws in each hand. He doesn't have much kibble, probably just the cockpit around his head. One of the best robot modes out there.

OVERALL:

A good figure, even as a standalone and ignoring that he combines. He has the best robot mode out of the set, is fun due to his six balljoints (the others in comparison are really limited in articulation), and this is the only converting figure of the character, definitely recommended.
