VEHICLE MODE:
Wheeljack transforms into a sports similar that bears a resemblance to a Lancia Stratos.
He sits fairly low on the ground but there is enough clearance to easily roll him on a flat surface.
Above is a comparison against TLK Bumblebee and Wheeljack is a decent size for a Deluxe.
Surprisingly, Wheeljack contains a lot of painted details. He features various "sponsors" but they are easily scratched, especially during transformation, so you'll have to be careful.
A bit of a disappointing aspect is the cap left at the back of the car. It's really only visible from a certain angle but it still could have been easily prevented.
The robot weapon can peg onto the roof, a bit lazy but there isn't much space underneath to store it.
A fantastic vehicle mode that does a great job of homaging the original figure.
TRANSFORMATION:'
It's not too hard to get Wheeljack into robot mode. The weakest aspect are the legs, they extend from the front of the car, and part of the windshield folds into the thighs. However, the joints feel weak and it doesn't properly click into place (even though it does stay solidly in place). The shoulders form from the back of the car while the arms from the sides.
ROBOT MODE:
Wheeljack's robot mode looks fairly good although he has huge legs and wide, flat arms.
He doesn't have kibble which is quite impressive.
The headsculpt is spot on and it is on a balljoint so it has plenty of motion.
While he is a decent size in vehicle mode, he's a bit shorter in Deluxe. However, he is on par with typical Siege Deluxes.
Articulation is great. Since the Earthrise line continues the articulation focus from Siege, he has joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles.
It really is quite impressive at how flexible Wheeljack is. The ankle tilts are supremely helpful.
Wheeljack comes with a stubby gun.
He can hold the gun in his hand and this is what is depicted in the instructions.
However, the gun is more closely sculpted to be his iconic shoulder cannon. A bit unfortunate that this leaves his without a handheld weapon.
Barring the slight proportion issues such as the long wide forearms with huge legs, this is a strong robot mode.
OVERALL:
Wheeljack is a nice update to the original figure. Whether he is an improvement over the previous Generations version from ten years ago depends on your personal preference but this is still a great figure.
