Planetarian: Snow Globe (2021)

Planetarian: Snow Globe is an OVA, serving as more content for the visual novel and anime Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet. It is a prequel, set before the events of the anime, which is natural given that the movie covered the after. It tells the story of Yumemi’s beginnings, the robot that is the presenter at the planetarium, tasked with selling tickets, attracting visitors, and presenting the show.

It stays true to the character, given that Yumemi is a little bit clumsy, constantly wanders away too far, and can go completely off track in her conversations. Her colleagues, whom we only had glimpsed of before, are shown here slowly getting used to Yumemi, and eventually warming up to her. We also get a glimpse of the cause of the events that would eventually turn the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Despite all that, the OVA is slow paced and unless you’re a big fan, it’s probably on the more boring side.

Overall, Planetarian: Snow Globe is one for the fans, which is natural given it’s origins as a Kickstarter. It doesn’t quite fully cover the events from the beginnings of Yumemi all the way to the events of the anime, but then again, it wasn’t supposed it. It’s beautifully animated and does enough to satisfy the appetites of anyone who wanted a bit more about this world.
