Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Spider-Man returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his first standalone movie, although Iron Man naturally makes an appearance, as well as a few other cameos. The scope of Homecoming is noticeably smaller compared to the other films but this isn't a bad thing. It focuses upon Peter Parker coming to terms with being thrust onto the side after his stint from Civil War, and trying to deal with high school issues at the same time. He has his sidekick, Ned, who eventually finds out his secret identity but unfortunately, Ned is more of an annoyance most of the time rather than being the funny support that the writers wanted. While it handles Peter's normal day to day problems of having a superhero alias fairly well, the pacing stutters from time to time. The introduction of Michael Keaton as the Vulture for the villain is pretty good. The Vulture is updated with a better suit and capabilities and while his distaste for Spider-Man and motivations aren't too rationale, he feels more fleshed out than a few other MCU villains. The upgraded spider-suit and skipping the need for an origin sequence was great as those has been done to death already. Overall, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a fun lighthearted film that perfectly suits the character.
