Toy Review: Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Siege Ironhide (Deluxe)
Review: #510
Name: Ironhide
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Autobot
Line: Generations - War for Cybertron: Siege
Year of Release: 2019
Size Class: Deluxe (Wave 2)
Mold Status: new
VEHICLE MODE:
Ironhide transforms into a Cybertronian van but is pretty much a red block on wheels with a windshield.
It generally looks okay but feels very generic. The back is the bottom of the robot's feet and makes no effort in looking like the rear of a vehicle.
Ironhide is fairly decent in size considering the new Deluxe standards, he's bigger than pretty much all the other Deluxes in the line. Above is a comparison against Studio Series Deluxe Lockdown.
The robot weapon can peg onto the roof and this is the only storage option in vehicle mode.
A decent vehicle mode, just a shame that they couldn't hide the robot shoulders and forearms a bit more.
TRANSFORMATION:
While Ironhide does not try anything unique or new, like the rest of the line, it works well and is simple enough to be fun. The rear splits to form the legs, while the front rotates 180 degrees to form the torso.
ROBOT MODE:
Ironhide's robot mode is pretty much spot on with the G1 design, with a few updates here and there (at least it is much better than the Universe and Combiner Wars versions).
There's a fair bit of hollowness to the figure, mainly the torso, thighs and forearms. It looks worse than it is since Ironhide still feels solidly built in your hands.
The headsculpt is spot on and is situated on a balljoint.
Ironhide is one of the biggest Deluxes we've had in a while, towering over everything else in the line, as well as Titans Return Quake above.
Articulation is great with joints for his shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles.
The wrists have swivels as well as his ankles having tilts so that he can stand flat in most poses.
Ironhide's weapon is a massive missile launching gun. Unfortunately, it's too long so he has to hold it at an angle otherwise you can't bend his elbow.
There are some silver painted battle damage on his feet and the weapon, which is a waste of budget.
The weapon is fairly versatile in that the tip is hinged to fold forward to form a hammer.
The hammer looks really good and suits Ironhide. It also means that he doesn't have any concessions in wielding in unlike the gun.
A great robot mode that more than make up for any of the few shortcomings of the vehicle mode.
OVERALL:
Ironhide is a great figure. While he doesn't try anything new, by keeping things basic he is solidly built in both modes. Furthermore, his size reminds you of the past where Deluxes used to be bigger and heftier.
