Hellboy (2019)
Hellboy is a reboot of the comic book character. It doesn't waste time on an origin story and gets right into it. It has a promising beginning, introducing the character and setting the tone of the film. Hellboy has a high amount of gore, and most of it is unnecessary and doesn't actually add much to the film. The plot is a typical resurrection affair. The Blood Queen Nimue was killed during the time of King Arthur but in the present day, some are attempting to revive her so that she can pretty much destroy the world. It is uninspiring and never amounts to anything more than that. The world is filled with mythical creatures, almost all of which are bad news for humans. Hellboy is part of a task force designed to eliminate these threats. Along the way of preventing Nimue's resurrection, he gets plenty of chances at meeting all these other creatures. That is the best part of the film. Unfortunately, everything starts to soon unravel as the film fails to retain your attention. The pacing slows to a crawl, the characters never develops so that you don't actually care what happens to them. Even the climax is boring even though there was a big battle and revelations about Hellboy's past. While it is not an absolutely disaster of a film, nothing about it makes it a definite must-watch.
