Toy Review: Transformers Generations Legacy Evolution Metalhawk (Voyager)

Review:
#765
Name:  Metalhawk
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Generations - Legacy: Evolution
Year of Release:  2023
Size Class:  Voyager (Wave 2)
Mold Status:  retool of Kingdom Cyclonus

JET MODE:

Metalhawk transforms into a predominantly blue jet, with some red, and the ugly unpainted "Hasbro grey".

It's still a good vehicle mode though, and the back is also quite nice because there aren't any exposed robot parts.

As a jet, he is a very good size, above is a comparison against Siege Optimus.

If you thought it was a bit weird with tailfins, this is because the robot guns peg on and act as tailfins, and it looks quite good.  Now if only they matched in color as well...

The other robot weapon, a sword, can peg on the top for storage in this mode.

This is a good jet mode, and this is a very heavy retool of Cyclonus, to the point of being unrecognizable, so it's very close to being like shared engineering instead.

TRANSFORMATION:

He transforms pretty much exactly the same as Cyclonus.  The back unfolds to become the legs, while the arms unfold from underneath.  The front folds into the torso.  It's a solid if simple, transformation.

ROBOT MODE:

Robot mode looks really good, and it has the classic Japanese G1 feel to it.  The addition of yellow complements the other colors.

He doesn't have much kibble, however, he has the same flaw as Cyclonus in the knees.  They do not click or tab into place, so can be annoying.  However, this does still give you the same flexibility of extending his legs if you think they are too short.

The head scup is good, although the grimace might make him a bit too grumpy.

Again, Metalhawk is a nice size in robot mode, he doesn't feel as hollow as Cyclonus did though.

Poseability is fine, with joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

He comes with three weapons, a pair of guns and a sword.

He can hold the gun in both hands, as you would expect.

Or you can combine the guns together to form a bigger one, although the handles are off to the side.

The guns can store in the same place as jet mode, which is now the sides of his legs.

With his sword, he can also hold it in either hand.

Again in robot mode, he is such a heavy retool of Cyclonus that if it wasn't for the same knee design, you might not have even recognized him as being a retool.  This is very impressive that so much work went into this figure.

The gimmicks here are limited to the weapons, so Metalhawk focuses on being a good Transformer instead.

This is a solid, in both design and feel, Transformers.

OVERALL:

Metalhawk is a good figure, one that maybe isn't something you would call innovative, but he sticks to the tried and trued basics that work.  Thus he has two good modes and apart from the annoying knees, no flaws.  The biggest downside is probably the fact that he isn't a popular or recognizable character.
