Toy Review: Transformers Age of the Primes Prima Prime (Voyager)

Review:
 #860
Name:  Prima Prime
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  N/A
Line:  Age of the Primes
Year of Release:  2025
Size Class:  Voyager (Wave 1)
Mold Status:  new

VEHICLE MODE:

Prima Prime, one of the Thirteen Primes, transforms into a Cybertronian armored truck.

He's predominantly white and grey, so looks a bit bland.  The back isn't that great either since it's the folded up robot legs.

Side-wise, he's fine, about the average size for a Voyager.

The robot weapon, which is a sword, can store in several ways.  The first is along the side.

It can also store on top between the legs.

And finally, this is in the instructions, it can attach to the front like some sort of weapon.

He also features a hover mode, where you can fold the wheels down.

It feels like a generic mode, from the design to the color scheme, but it doesn't actually do anything bad, just... a little bit boring.

TRANSFORMATION:

Transformation feels generic as well.  The back unfolds to become the legs, while the sides of the front are the arms.  The windshield folds away with the torso from the underside of the vehicle.

ROBOT MODE:

Unfortunately, Prima also has a fairly bland robot mode.  He's got some curvy angles, so he doesn't have that blocky G1 aesthetic, and so just misses that Transformer look.

He's not a bad robot mode though, he has some kibble on his back but most of the vehicle is nicely tucked away.

The head sculpt is nice and looks heroic.

Size-wise, again, he's about normal for a Voyager figure.

Articulation is really good, with joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, wrist, hips, knees and ankles.

He has a bonus gimmick here being that his chest can open to reveal a Matrix.

The Matrix is also removeable and it is designed to peg onto the hilt of the sword to complete it.

The sword can peg on his back for storage.

As mentioned, this isn't a bad robot mode but for a "Thirteen", he doesn't have that sense of grandiose, with a design and color scheme that shouts generic.

He doesn't have much additional play value either.  That said, his sword looks nice and is a great weapon and probably the most interesting part of the figure...

A standard robot mode that isn't offensive, but it doesn't shout greatness either.

OVERALL:

Prima Prime is not a bad figure, he's just generic.  He doesn't fail any anything, but he also doesn't have anything that is a surprise or makes you think is such an awesome feature.
