ALTERNATE MODE:
Alpha Trion transforms into a Cybertronian spaceship, and it's a passable alt mode.
There are some really obvious robot elements, even though they're relatively integrated into the spaceship mode. The front are obviously the robot legs, while the back fully reveals the chest and torso details.
The robot shield attaches underneath to form the spaceship's wings, so they're undersized.
It's not a bad spaceship mode, but it won't wow you either.
TRANSFORMATION:
Getting Alpha Trion into robot mode is quite standard. The front splits into two to form the legs. The sides are the arms, and you can then fold the whole assembly down, flip up the head and you're done. There are no surprises or ingenious trickery here.
ROBOT MODE:
This version of Alpha Trion is based upon his younger self, rather than the older character we're used to seeing in mode media.
He still has a regal /wise look to him, although he's lacking the cape that we normally associate the character with.
The head sculpt is interesting with some sharp lines. He still has a beard but is definitely a much younger version of the character.
In terms of size, he is an okay height, and feels solid in the hand. It helps that he's chunky and blocky.
Articulation is fine, with joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.
He comes with three accessories, a shield, a quill, and a book (The Covenant of Primus).
The Covenant of Primus actually has a page inside, and Cybertronian script that says "Till all are one", which is a really nice touch.
There's a 5mm peg on the back of the Covenant so that it can be held like he's reading from it. Similar, the quill is also 5mm compatible, but he can't really hold that in a writing angle.
The shield can peg onto his forearm.
Everything can be stored on his back, and this can act as a proxy cape.
And finally, the Autobot insignia on his torso can be removed and held in his hand or attached to his shoulder. The shoulder spikes are removable.
While he looks boring at first glance, the quill and Covenant gives him a lot of character.
The only thing he's missing is a ranged weapon.
He's not the most action packed and coolest looking bot, but that's what makes him unique.
OVERALL:
Getting a unique mold dedicated to Alpha Trion is an interesting choice, given that he will probably shelfwarm. The figure itself is solid, even if the spaceship mode and the robot mode are both fairly tame and borders on being boring. However, the accessories, the quill and the Covenant, really help add some flourish to the figure.
