Comments: Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain returns again for another adventure, which was somewhat unexpected. A few years have passed since Darquesse and Valkyrie is still reeling from the effects and psychological damage from that encounter, including all the guilt that she feels. Skulduggery, on the other hand, remains much the same and he comes back to Valkyrie trying to convince her to return and fight evil. Since so many characters had died by the end of the last book, a slew of new characters are introduced, including a whole new set of villains. Unfortunately, this does mean the first half is somewhat confusing and hard to keep track of who is who, and who is doing what, especially since the author tends to spend a lot of time setting up subplots for future novels. Once the various plot threads start to intertwine and wrap together, the trademark humor (with some excellent one-liners) and exciting action returns, making Resurrection a blast to read. The plot points of Valkyrie trying to get over her guilt and one of the villains able to corrupt and mind control anyone he wishes are something that’s been done a lot in other series so it doesn’t feel original here, and are some of the parts that you’d rush through just to get it over and done with. The ending was good, although some lacking in the climactic moments, however, it brings excellent promise to future instalments of the series. Resurrection is a strong start to a new arc in the Skulduggery Pleasant series.
