Title: No Game No Life Vol. 6
Series: No Game No Life - 6th volume
Author: Yuu Kamiya
Read Before: no
Comments: The sixth volume of No Game No Life is a prequel, and tells the story of the Great War and how it ended. It tackles the tough topic of how in a world with beings of such immense power, did the lowly race of humans survive? The writing and cohesion of the plot is a notable step up from previous volumes. It balances just the right amount of humor and drama into the story, although there were a few confusing concepts involving the winning conditions. Naturally, set 6000 years ago, Sora and Shiro doesn’t even enter the story at all, it focuses on the human Riku and his partner Schwi. One of the best things about the plot is that it shows us a better understanding of some of the other races. While Phantasma is still somewhat vague, in particular, the Old Deus and the Ex Machina is a lot more fleshed out, which helps sets up the next plot arc in which Blank will challenge Old Deus (apparently). It’s surprising how engaging the story is, considering that it lacks the kind of games and wit that the series is known for. However, it is somewhat questionable that so many races and characters take on the form of a young girl.
