VEHICLE MODE:
Studio Series Sideswipe it based upon his appearance in the third film, thus he transforms into a convertible Corvette Stingray.
The most striking feature of the vehicle mode is that it is painted in silver, which looks really nice. The unpainted grey hubcaps on the other hand, sticks out because of this.
Above is a comparison against Studio Series Lockdown and you can see that Sideswipe is a tad bit smaller, and flatter.
As a convertible, there's some sculpted interior details including two seats and the steering wheel.
The only gimmick here is the rolling wheels. The robot guns also connect on the underside and double as additional exhausts.
A great looking vehicle mode. The only let down are the hubcaps but even that is fairly minor.
TRANSFORMATION:
As you'd expect of a Studio Series figure, the focus is on simplicity but ingenuity. The sides do break into his swords as separate pieces. Otherwise, the front forms the legs, the back forms the torso and the sides forms the arms. It's really reminiscent of the original ROTF Sideswipe figure. As a result, this is a massive shellformer with door wings and three half of the vehicle shell on his back.
ROBOT MODE:
The robot mode is quite movie accurate and athletic looking.
Unfortunately, all the budget was spent painting the vehicle silver as all the robot mode parts are unpainted grey.
The headsculpt is a little bit busy but otherwise is decent.
Unfortunately, Sideswipe is one of the smaller Deluxes in the line, above is a comparison against Titans Return Quake.
Sideswipe comes with two sets of weapons, his blades and his guns.
When not in use, the guns can peg onto his back but requires quite a bit of force to get them to peg.
The blades on the other hand peg onto slots in his hands.
The blades are the most show accurate that we've had in a figure. They look fantastic.
Despite the wheels for feet, Sideswipe balances extremely well thanks to two additional pieces that can pivot to keep in contact with the surface.
Articulation is decent with balljointed hips and shoulders (along with the wing kibble), and hinged elbows and knees with swivels.
The guns peg into either hand and you can have both the guns and swords attached at the same time.
Unfortunately, the knees cannot bend too much and that is the biggest restriction in robot mode.
A strong robot mode that is show accurate and having both of his signature weapons is nice.
OVERALL:
Sideswipe is a solid figure. He has an interesting transformation and a fantastic looking vehicle mode. The robot mode is stellar too apart from the unpainted plastic, especially in contrast to the vehicle. Like a lot of the other Studio Series figures, Sideswipe is a tad bit small which reduces his value a bit.
