VEHICLE MODE:
Sentinel Prime is based upon his Dark of the Moon appearance and transforms into a Rosenbauer fire engine.
This is a really good alternate mode, brimming with details and doesn't have any robot kibble sticking out or weird gaps.
The red is painted and so the figure looks really rich in real life. That said, there are a lot of panel seams due to transformation.
Sentinel Prime is a large Voyager (at least compared to others), above is a comparison against Titans Return Optimus.
The hose on top is just for show, as only half of it can lift up for transformation purposes. It's nowhere near as versatile as the Leader version from nearly a decade ago.
Nevertheless, this is an excellent vehicle mode and one of the very best.
TRANSFORMATION:
Sentinel Prime has a complex and involved transformation. Due to the character design barely having any vehicle parts, this has the side effect of causing the vehicle to pretty much fold inside out to hide it more elegantly in robot mode. The rear portion form the legs, while the front the torso and arms. The top forms the cape and that's it.
ROBOT MODE:
Sentinel Prime's robot mode is quite screen accurate and looks as good as the vehicle mode, more red has been brought out and it is very nice.
The designer has tried to fold away most of the kibble into his legs and it works fairly well. He wears the top of the vehicle as a cape.
The headsculpt is fine, it tries to pack in a lot of detail so can be a bit muddy.
Above is a comparison against Studio Series Optimus and you can see that he is approximately the same height.
As part of the Studio Series line, he comes with a cardboard stand.
The stand depicts the city of Chicago as seen in the climax of the film.
Sentinel has good articulation but due to transformation lacks a waist joint. The way the vehicle's windshield clip onto his back is a bit awkward.
The other issue is the way his knees and feet are designed. The feet slope forward so you either need to bend the knees back or have him crouching a bit, both of which aren't perfectly natural.
He comes with his signature weapon but it is split into two pieces (they actually form part of the vehicle mode's sides).
The two blades peg into his hand, and while you can peg one in each hand, it's not really designed for that.
The inclusion of wrist swivels gives you a lot of options with the blades.
A wonderful robot mode that looks great and packs in enough play value to satisfy most fans.
OVERALL:
Sentinel Prime is a great figure and is definitely better than the previous Voyager figure, but much harder to determine when compared to the Leader figure. Despite that, this figure is well painted, packed with detail and doesn't have any deal breaking flaws.
