The Italian Job (2003)

The Italian Job is a classic heist movie, and it does a great job with its scenes.  It has a good blend of action and thrilling moments.  Despite the title, only the first part of the movie takes place in Italy, before moving on back to America.  The group, headed by Charlie, has a personal interest in stealing $35 million worth of gold.  The early section that took place in Italy only sets up the scene and the dynamic between the characters.  The plot doesn't really get movie until it does a time skip and the group is in America, making their plans for the heist.  The build up can't be called slow but it wasn't that quick either, however, once they put their plan into motion, it is hard to stop watching.  This is because since we aren't told of the plan beforehand, and are only shown tiny snippets of the preparation, the climax puts some sense into the characters' actions.  This is helped by the awesome portrayals of the Mini Cooper cars and a satisfying one-up on the villain.
