Toy Review: Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Kingdom Golden Disk Collection Terrorsaur (Deluxe)

Review:
#717
Name:  Terrorsaur
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Predacon
Line:  Generations - War for Cybertron:  Kingdom
Year of Release:  2022
Size Class:  Deluxe
Mold Status:  remold of Airazor

PACKAGING:

Terrorsaur was released as part of the Golden Disk Collection set of exclusives, so he comes in a fancier box.  Since it's only a Deluxe figure, the box isn't too big in size.

It's a shame for a Season 1 cast character, Terrorsaur is an exclusive, making it harder (and more expensive) to get him.  A word of warning, there are two tiny silver pieces that peg onto his arm that are stored at the back of the cardboard insert wrapped in paper, so it is very easy to miss.  Be careful not to chuck it away without removing it.

BEAST MODE:

Terrorsaur transforms into a red pteradon and for a remold of Airazor, this is a really good effort.  If you didn't know it already, you might not realize that he was a remold.

He has a fairly impressive wingspan, although his wings, which are only held by friction joints, likes to fall off if you're unlucky with the quality control lottery.

Thanks to transforming into a beast, Terrorsaur feels slightly bigger and bulkier than a standard Deluxe (above is TLK Bumblebee).

And a quick shot next to Airazor to show how much was remolded.  Apart from a few minor parts, everything else is new sculpting.  This is definitely not a lazy effort (well, lazier than a brand new mold but for a retool, it's nearly a new toy).

The mouth can open and close, but the head itself feels fairly restrictive in movement.

The robot gun can store in two ways, the first it pegging it against the wing (but this gets in the way of the wings folding), and the second is against his leg.

Articulation is limited here, even more so than Airazor.  Terrorsaur is also top heavy (naturally), while his ankles are balljoints.  This isn't normally a problem but you still need to fiddle around so he can balance.

He comes with a Golden Disk, while he can't really hold it or store it in this mode, he's able to hold it in his mouth.

A fantastic beast mode.  While not quite a smooth and organic as one would hope given that most of the robot is unhidden in the torso, it's better than average.

TRANSFORMATION:

As you can expect, the transformation shares a lot of engineering with Airazor.  There are a few differences, such as the beast head folding onto the back of the robot.  Otherwise, the beast legs become robot legs, the arms unfold from the torso, the head flips up and the wings collapse.

ROBOT MODE:

Once again, it is seriously impressive how much the designer was able to do with just a retool.  Terrorsaur looks amazing here, and right in line with his show appearance.

Terrorsaur, for a cast member, was often overlooked and haven't received many toy updates over the years, so it's great to finally see one done by  Hasbro over twenty years later.

The head sculpt is perfect in capturing the character's slimy look.

In terms of size, while he does seem big in robot mode, he's shorter in robot mode, being on par with other Deluxes.

Another quick look in comparison with Airazor, this time in robot mode.  You can see how different Terrorsaur is.

Articulation is fantastic, he has joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

Unfortunately as part of sacrifice from being a retool, he has a faux chest.  The original toy has it formed from the back of the beast, this isn't the case here.

He comes with a weapon, a gun that looks great.

He can hold the gun in either hand.

When not in use, the gun can store either on his wings or on his hip (which looks better out of the two options).

He's well painted too, the red is spot on, and the silver highlights look amazing.  He doesn't have many hollow pieces so he feels solid all round.

This is a great robot mode and pretty much perfect.

OVERALL:

Terrorsaur is an awesome figure and a definite must have for any Beast Wars fans.  It's just such a shame that he ended up being an exclusive (which thankfully isn't as hard to find like others), and also being a retool.  Granted, the retool was executed near flawlessly but you can't help but still feel he deserves a brand new mold as a mainline release.
