Name: Tarantulas
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Predacon
Line: Generations - Legacy
Year of Release: 2022
Size Class: Deluxe (Wave 2)
Mold Status: new
BEAST MODE:
Based upon his Beast Wars appearance, Tarantulas transforms into a purpose spider that looks much more show accurate than his original toy.
This is an excellent spider mode, and needless to say, he is a completely new mold different from Blackarachnia. Since he has more bulk, the spider mode is also better at hiding all of the robot parts.
In terms of size, Tarantulas is decent for a Deluxe, one of the bigger ones in the recent batch of figures.
Both robot weapons store on the underside in spider mode. All eight of his legs only have one balljoint in the middle, while they're all attached to the body as one solid piece, limiting poseability.
TRANSFORMATION:
Transformation is simple but effective. The arms fold out from underneath, while the legs from the back. You fold the front and back half together to get the robot torso and you're done.
ROBOT MODE:
Perhaps most impressive is how solidly built he is. Yes, he has hollow parts but they're done in a way that doesn't feel cheap or flimsy (i.e. the back of his legs are additional supporting struts that really helps minimise the light cheap feeling that plagues so many Transformers these days).
In terms of size, he's about normal Deluxe size but as mentioned earlier, he feels bulky and solid, so there are no complaints here.
The spider legs on his arms can seem unwieldy since they're sprayed so wide, but you can fold them back in if you want. Unfortunately, they're not nimble enough to replicate the spider leg machine guns from the cartoon.
The two weapons can also combine into one larger weapon although this looks stupid, and reduces his arm articulation as it covers his forearm.
OVERALL:
Tarantulas is an amazing figure and one of the best we've had in a while. He has two great modes, a simple but fun transformation, and he feels bulky and solid in your hands. If only the rest of the line was as well designed as he is.
