Toy Review: Transformers Generations Titans Return Ptero
Review: #420
Name: Ptero
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Autobot
Line: Generations - Titans Return
Year of Release: 2017
Size Class: Titan Master (Wave 3)
Mold Status: new
ROBOT MODE:
Ptero is part of the Titan Master size class, the smallest and cheapest one within the line. As a result, the figure comes with a Titan Master and a vehicle.
The Titan Master itself is nothing special although the orange torso and grey limbs help allow the sculpting to stand out.
There's limited articulation being balljointed head and shoulders.
PTERANODON MODE:
Ptero can combine with the vehicle accessory to form a pteranodon (aka a flying dinosaur).
One of the neat things about this size class is how it integrates the Titan Master into the mode, and Ptero is not exception. The Titan Master forms the torso.
Even with Ptero combined, the figure feels light and not the same mass as a normal Legion figure. Above is a comparison against RiD (2015) Drift.
Due to transformation, the mouth is partially jointed such that you can allow Ptero to roar. Don't open it too wide though otherwise it'll look unnatural.
A strong mode that combines organic and mechanical elements together.
VEHICLE MODE:
A normal triplechanger is hard enough already, but one that's all in the small size class? Surprisingly, Ptero pulls off the vehicle mode better than expected.
It's supposed to be a jet and looks more akin to a flying chair. The biggest fail is how the front of the jet, while supposed to look like a nosecone with a gun, still looks like the pteranodon's head...
Ptero can sit in the chair, with the holes on the bottom of his legs attaching to the corresponding pegs.
The mechanical sculpting works really well here.
WEAPON MODE:
Lastly, Ptero himself can form the head and attach to any Titans Return Deluxe, Voyager or Leader class figure. Perceptor is used for the purposes of this review.
The accessory can form a weapon and in this case, it is a crossbow.
There's a 5mm peg to allow the weapon to be held by most larger classed figures.
It's a long weapon and since there are no pin joints, it can be a bit loose at times.
Nevertheless, it is one of the better weapon modes in the line.
OVERALL:
Ptero is a fun little figure. The vehicle accessory is one of the best in the line, with three passable modes. Ptero himself is just like any other Titan Master so nothing special there. If you can find them cheap, then it's a good purchase with the amount of play value that you get, especially if you have the larger figures to do head swaps with.
