The sequel to the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, it is on the whole an enjoyable flick. The return of all the cast is a plus. Despite the continued ugly designs of the turtles, it captured their personalities fairly well. Shredder returns as the villain but is unfortunately severely reduced in scope, and acts in a stupid manner for the whole duration. It is unbelievable for a character that is supposedly so calculating, to be such a gullible idiot. The worse thing is that you can't seem to take the new villain seriously. That actually goes for the whole film, on the one hand, it seems to be serious with sombre music and grounded dialogue while on the other, it is cheesy and filled with corny jokes and toilet humor. The tone is inconsistent and it hurts the film's identity. The outrageous stunts and scenarios doesn't help either and while the action sequences were great, you'd want more. The weapon combat sequences were great and it seemed like the turtles did not get to shine much in this department. The plot is very simple and amounts to little more than a big fetch quest and retreads a few themes already explored in the original which makes it tiring. Overall, while it is not terrible, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows feels more like a B grade film rather than the A grade it was aiming for.
