My Scientology Movie (2015)
Starring Louis Theroux, he embarks on an attempt to create a documentary on the Church of Scientology. It is less about Scientology itself and more about Louis' ineffective approach and the retaliation of the Church as a result. If you go into the movie without knowing anything about Scientology, this this documentary doesn't help clarify any matters. It only very briefly explains the concepts of the religion in the beginning and then quickly swaps to showcasing Louis hiring actors to represent some of the Church's most prominent members, introducing Mark Rathbun, an ex-high ranking Scientology, as an advisor and then visiting the various Scientology buildings such as Gold Base. While it tries to be impartial, it still paints a negative view of the religion, particularly since the confrontations by the members feels unwarranted and too aggressive. Louis does step on a few toes, including his own advisors when conversing with them and asking some sensitive questions. Overall, My Scientology Movie isn't what you'd expect, for good or bad, but it is quite interesting.
