Pocahontas is a Disney traditionally animated film, it's a musical again. The storyline is very familiar to a few of Disney's other films. Set during a time when Englishman were exploring the "New Worlds" and claiming it for themselves in order to suck out its resources (i.e. gold), it follows Pocahontas. Pocahontas is a native of the lands and she was the first to encounter one of the new settlers. What follows is a typical tale of misunderstanding between two groups but this is undermined by a racial undertone. Even the songs highlight the fact that they don't like the other as they are a different race. The pacing is slow with a lack of interesting scenes and moments. The storyline is too predictable by this point to enjoy. The lack of humor is noticeable, as well as the lack of charming characters that you would like immediately. However, the music is excellent and are the highlights of the film. Given these factors, Pocahontas is an average film.
