VEHICLE MODE:
Surprisingly, Grapple comes out first before Inferno (since Grapple is traditionally a retool of Inferno) and transforms into an orange crane truck.
This is an excellent truck mode and you can see aesthetic cues from the Masterpiece figure. There is a gap at the back unfortunately since the feet don't peg together completely.
As a Voyager, Grapple feels a bit small in hand but he is compact. Above is a comparison against Titan Returns Optimus and while it doesn't look like Grapple is much smaller, it is a lot more apparent in hand.
A rarity these days but Grapple has some play value in alternate mode. The crane arm can rotate and lift up, as well extend and retract.
You can flip the hook back to attach the claw.
When not in use, both the claw and his robot gun can peg on either side.
Grapple also interacts with Ironworks. The middle of the claw has the clip required to attach to bases.
An excellent vehicle mode and while it is basically a rectangular block with vehicular sculpting at the front, it's done well.
TRANSFORMATION:
Transformation is pretty intuitive and it never tries to be overly complicated. The crane arm sits on a few panels that collapse upon each other so that the base attaches to the vehicle's front and reveals the head. The legs fold downwards, and the arms forms from the body of the truck. The crane than just rests on his back.
ROBOT MODE:
Grapple's robot mode looks fantastic and definitely gives the Masterpiece a run for its money considering how much cheaper this figure is.
As a result of the budget of the Voyager class, the crane arm just sits on his back and it doesn't get in the way though.
The headsculpt is good and it sits on a swivel joint.
Height-wise, Grapple is a little bit shorter than usual Voyagers. Above is a comparison against Studio Series Optimus Prime.
By default, Grapple has two hands. His articulation is fantastic with joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.
Grapple comes with two accessories, a gun and a claw.
By folding one of his hands in, you can attach the claw as a replacement to mimic the original toy.
Both hands also have 5mm ports to hold the weapon.
There is just enough black to help break and prevent the orange from becoming overwhelming.
This is a near perfect robot mode for the characters.
OVERALL:
Grapple is a very solid figure. There was potential for stability issues but Grapple manages to avoid all of that. Both modes looks great, and both modes has a surprising amount of play value. He feels solid in your hands and is one of the better Voyager figures we've had in a while.
