Review: #637
Name: Lieutenant Lo Mein
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: N/A
Line: BotBots
Year of Release: 2020
Size Class: BotBot (Series 5)
Mold Status: new
ALTERNATE MODE:
The designers of BotBots strike again with yet another inventive alternate mode, and this time, Lieutenant Lo Mein transforms into a Chinese takeaway box, complete with chopsticks!
While this is just a white box, most of the paint budget went into the contents and we see it's some sort of noodle meal.
TRANSFORMATION:
The alternate mode isn't the only thing unique about Lo Mein, because he is one of the few BotBots with a separate accessory. The chopsticks are removable and it is required for transformation. Otherwise open up the sides for the arms, flip the front panel down to reveal the head, and then pull the legs down. Finally, put the chopsticks into his hand.
ROBOT MODE:
Lo Mein actually has a weapon. It is surprising that Hasbro greenlight this considering how small the chopsticks are and how much of a choking hazard that they would be.
Otherwise, this is a brilliant robot mode, mainly due to the chopsticks which is ridiculous in concept but works so well in execution.
Articulation is where Lo Mein falls down a bit, you can move the arms but they are jointed at the back so it doesn't have much meaningful movement.
OVERALL:
Lieutenant Lo Mein is a fantastic BotBot, even within the high quality line. The Chinese takeaway alternate mode is awesome and the robot mode carries over that theme very well.
