Toy Review: Transformers Generations Legacy Evolution Scraphook (Deluxe)

Review:
  #772
Name:  Scraphook
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Generations - Legacy:  Evolution
Year of Release:  2023
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 1)
Mold Status:  new

VEHICLE MODE:

Scraphook transforms into a tow truck that takes inspiration from the Junkions (and Wreck-Gar) with a healthy dose of apocalyptic Mad Max touch to it.

He looks pretty good in this mode and there are no gaps either, so that is quite impressive.

In terms of size, he is compact so he isn't that much smaller than previous Deluxes.

A lot of the pieces can be removed to reveal a slightly cleaner truck, but given the theme and battle damage, he looks better with all the other pieces on.

This is a good truck mode that has a little bit of extra play value thanks to the numerous accessories that he comes with.

TRANSFORMATION:

Despite bearing a Weaponizer gimmick in which he splits into pieces to form armor for other figures, unlike previous figures with this gimmick, he does not need to separate to transform.  Yes, the designer managed to not make him a partsformer and that is extremely impressive.  He doesn't have an odd or quirky transformation either.  The front splits to form the legs, while the back also splits to form the arms.  The only odd things that betray his Weaponizer gimmicks are joints that aren't hinges or balljoints, and the fact that sometimes, his limbs are more easily pulled off.

ROBOT MODE:

Scraphook looks great in robot mode, keeping with the Junkion and apocalyptic theming.

He doesn't carry much kibble either, and despite being designed to be pulled apart into several pieces, he stays together in one piece very well for the most part (from time to time, you might accidentally detach his arm).

The head sculpt is busy and has a lot of detailing, including a metal eyepatch.

In terms of size, he is around the average height for a Deluxe, but he does feel heftier with more mass.

Scraphook comes with a bunch of accessories left over from the vehicle mode.

The tow arm forms a weapon that pegs into his forearm, while the wheel forms a shield on his other forearm.  The two exhaust pipes peg onto his shoulders, and while the slot is the hubcaps of the wheels, it is moulded as a separate piece so it doesn't spin when plugged in either.

Articulation is what you would expect of a figure post-Siege, being that he has joints for his head, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

While he does have those joints, by necessity, some of those aren't your typical hinges or balljoints, but rather a combination of panels on hinges that try and achieve a similar range of motion, but can move more awkwardly by comparison.

You can left the guns pegs onto his shins during transformation and for storage, but they can be detached to be held in his hands.  It's a really nice and clever gimmick.

Even without considering his Weaponizer gimmick, Scraphook has a fantastic robot mode.

WEAPONIZER MODE:

While not really named a Weaponizer (given the line's gimmick is now Evo-Fusion), he functions the same.  He splits into various weapons to form armor for other figures of the line.

Scraphook turns into a pair of shoulder pads, a pair of feet pieces and the weaponry formed from his accessories.  It looks good, in particular the shoulder pads, and they should fit any figure from Legacy and Legacy Evolution.  The only downside here is that there is one piece, formed from Scraphook's torso, that isn't used and is left off to the side.

OVERALL:

Scraphook vastly improves the Weaponizer idea just from not being a partsformer, and this brings out the impressive design.  Perhaps most impressively is that none of his modes are compromised, they all look great, and he comes with so many accessories on his own that Scraphook is worth purchasing even though he is an original character.
