Toy Review: Transformers Generations Power of the Primes Torox (Voyager)

Review:  #476
Name:  Torox
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Decepticon
Line:  Generations - Power of the Primes
Year of Release:  2018
Size Class:  Voyager
Mold Status:  new but shares engineering with Headstrong

BEAST MODE:

Torox transforms into a robotic ox.

He shares the engineering with Headstrong so all the pluses and minuses from him apply here.  The massive piece of plastic that is the combiner thigh sits as the belly and isn't too obtrusive there.

Torox is advertised as a Voyager but is much heavier and bigger than a typical Voyager (albeit simpler as a trade-off).  Above is a comparison against Generations Titans Return Optimus.

The weapon (which doubles up as Predaking's foot) can peg on top as a gigantic double-barreled gun.

This mode is really static, he can't really pull off any other poses except standing still which is a little bit disappointing for an update to the character.  Still, there's nothing wrong with this mode and so it's pretty good.

TRANSFORMATION:

Torox has a really simple transformation scheme, the most interesting of which is just the legs forming from the beast's torso, and even that isn't terribly amazing.  You literally stand the beast mode up to get the robot.

ROBOT MODE:

Torox's robot mode is bulky, stocky and very much like a G1 figure in regards to its proportions.

He carries the massive thigh kibble on his back and that is unfortunate since it goes to below his knees.

The headsculpt is simple but effective, the face being on the underside of the ox's head.

As you can see, Torox towers over other Voyagers.

Articulation is solid but the thigh kibble gets in the way of bending his knees too much.  That backpack is pegged onto his back but you can detach it to move it out of the way if required.

The feet are large which helps stabilize the figure.  There are enough different colored base plastic to make Torox visually good despite the lack of paint applications and stickers.

The weapon is Predaking's foot which acts as a gigantic shoulder cannon now.

To utilize it as a shoulder cannon, you slot it into a groove on Torox' shoulder and truth be told, it actually looks pretty good.

Like beast mode, this is a solid robot mode without too many flaws.

OVERALL:

It is a bit of shame that Torox shares the engineering with Headstrong purely because there are no surprises.  Despite this, it is a sold mold and the huge thigh backpack is visually ugly and can impede at certain points but can be a lot worse.
