Alien: Covenant is a sequel to Prometheus and prequel to the original Alien films. At first, all seems swell and it doesn't feel like an Alien film, however, that soon changes once they arrive on the planet. It quickly links to Prometheus and continues on that story. Interestingly, it takes a long while before the Xenomorphs make their appearances and even then, we don't see too much of them. This actually works really well as the mystery of what happened to the planet, how the Xenomorphs came into play, and how this all links to Prometheus keeps the viewer engaged. The slow anticipating moments adds to the tense atmosphere and this is where the film excels. Unfortunately, all of this never really settles into anything. Covenant doesn't reveal anything new at all, and at the end of the film, it feels like despite having enjoyed your time, everything that has happened is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
