The Great Gatsby is a romantic drama set in 1920s New York. Upon starting the film, it's hard to tell what the plot is going to be and it has an intriguing first half where we're introduced to Carraway as he settles in New York. His neighbor is the mysterious millionaire Gatsby who holds lavish parties but yet no one truly knows who he is. Gatsby seems to take interest in Carraway and we're led to believe that there is something amazing about Gatsby. Unfortunately, this mystique ends by the halfway point when it is revealed Gatsby's goal and while it does make thing slot into place, at the same time, all drive to know what happens next kind of melts away. The second half feels muddled, seemingly without direction on where it wants to go. There isn't really any form of urgency towards the climax of the film and it sorts of fizzle out upon the ending.
