Inspector Gadget (1999)
Inspector Gadget is a live-action film based upon the animated series. In it, it follows a security guard turned policeman when he gets transforms into a mechanical hybrid. Turning into the titular Inspector Gadget, he has a wide array of tools and gadgets at his disposal and therein lies the character's (and film's) greatest strength. It's fun to watch what type of gadget he is going to pull out next. Being targeted at a younger audience, the plot is silly and isn't complicated. It doesn't put in the effort to think too hard on whether something is plausible. The short length is a negative since it never builds a solid foundation so the plot feels too shallow. Shoved into it is your typical evil villain and a love interest whom the Inspector will save. As expected, the film relies heavily on CGI and this has not allowed the film to age well at all. It's a weak film overall that will satisfy its younger target market but feel very boring and generic for adults.
