Toy Review: Transformers Generations Power of the Primes Blot (Deluxe)

Review:  #481
Name:  Blot
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Decepticon
Line:  Generations - Power of the Primes
Year of Release:  2018
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 3)
Mold Status:  retool of POTP Rippersnapper

ALTERNATE MODE:

Blot, as part of the Terrorcons, transforms into a fictional bipedal monster.

This is one of the better monster modes out of the team.  You can see that the robot legs are neatly tucked into his back.

Due to the way that he transforms, this is a really compact alternate mode.  Above is a comparison against Titans Return Quake.

As part of the Power of the Primes line, he comes with a collector card.

The gun normally pegs onto a slot above his head, while the combiner weapon can attach onto his backpack, blending in nicely.

Blot is somewhat poseable.  The arms have elbow and shoulder joints as they double up as the robot's arms, the legs are all molded in one piece therefore it is significantly more restrictive.

A great monster mode.

TRANSFORMATION:

Despite being a retool of Rippersnapper, there is actually a clever variation in the transformation scheme.  The robot legs are now tucked onto his back, rather than splitting and collapsing upon itself.  Otherwise, everything else will remain familiar.

ROBOT MODE:

Robot mode is also where Blot shines as a figure since he looks really good and would go so far as to say the best Terrorcon figure of the set.

He has a bit of kibble being the monster's head on his back, and the monster legs awkwardly placed on the outside of each leg.

The headsculpt is so so, the grimace and the way it is molded makes him look old and deadly serious.

In terms of size, his height is on par with other Deluxes although he is a tad bit on the skinnier side, but that's pretty much all Deluxes these days.

Poseability is great with balljointed shoulders, elbows, head and hips.  While he has hinged knees and a waist swivel, he'll be able to pull off plenty of poses.

His main weapon is the triple claw on the outside of each fist which looks really cool.  One of the neatest thing about the transformation is how with a simple flip out of the fists, it changes from a three-clawed hand to a normal fist with a three-clawed weapon.

If you prefer for him to retain the three-clawed monster hand, it's possible and looks equally awesome.

In terms of weapons, he has a small pistol as well as the combiner piece.

He can hold the gun in either hand, nothing special about this.

It is hard for the combiner piece to pull off as a weapon so it looks lame no matter how you choose to attach it.

As the combiner piece shares a common design, you can pull the middle piece out for Blot to use it as a small pistol.

The combiner piece can also attach onto his chest for Prime Armor.

Lastly, there are peg holes on either side of his shoulders for you to attach the gun which looks pretty sweet.  An awesome robot mode overall.

OVERALL:

Rippersnapper was already a great toy and whilst a retool wouldn't guarantee it to also be a great toy, Blot succeeds.  He has two really nice modes as well as a lot of versatility in his weaponry.  Even if you do not intend to combine him with the rest of the Terrorcons, he is worth it on his own.

As part of the Power of the Primes line, Blot has the ability to also transform into either an arm or leg to combine with a Voyager toy from the same line or from Combiner Wars.

Blot is normally the right arm of Abominus.  The transformation into an arm and how it looks isn't too different to any other Deluxes in the same line, we've seen it all before.

The same can be said for the leg form although it is a bit harder to tell what he is supposed to be.  That's it for the review, thanks for reading!
