Title: The Tin Princess
Series: Sally Lockhart - 4th and final book
Author: Philip Pullman
Comments: Despite being part of the Sally Lockhart series, the novel stars Jim Taylor instead, and Sally only has a minor part. The Tin Princess has one of the most intriguing plots in which a commoner becomes the queen of a small country. Filled with politics, it is engaging in that it transforms that commoner into something formidable, as she slowly understands how the game works. Jim himself is a magnet for trouble so even though everything seems well and the country looks like it is able to stay independent; various plots come into the forefront and threatens to destabilize all that the characters had worked hard for. The author manages to subtly create the culture and history of the fictional kingdom that it feels as if you’ve known it all your life. You’re constantly anticipate how the story will end and it ended up being quite the surprise, filled with action as everything unravels.
