Toy Review: Transformers Cyberverse Shockwave (Deluxe)

Review:  #578
Name:  Shockwave
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Decepticon
Line:  Cyberverse
Year of Release:  2019
Size Class:  Deluxe (Wave 1)
Mold Status:  new

ALTERNATE MODE:

The Cyberverse Warrior line was somewhat disappointing, and even though the Warrior version of Shockwave was the best of the bunch, it was bear passable.  Therefore, come the Deluxe versions which are more traditional Deluxes with better articulation and higher amounts of detail.  Unfortunately, the tank mode of Shockwave appears to be worse.

The legs are fine, even though they are obviously robot mode limbs, but the turret is non-existent and it looks absolutely terrible.

As a Deluxe, Shockwave is around on par with the recent Deluxes, that is to say, cost-cutting is still in full force.

Since each leg is a robot limb, they have two points of articulation.  The "turret" can rotate a bit but it is situated too far back to look good.

Shockwave comes with a firing effects parts and this can plug onto the cannon and it looks pretty good there.

As part of the size-class-wide gimmick, Shockwave comes with one part of Maccadam, and he comes with the right leg.

A poor alternate mode, even more so when this was supposed to be the better version.

TRANSFORMATION:

Transformation is simple and mirrors the Warrior version.  The limbs straighten out to form the arms and legs.  The front of the tank folds down to form the chest and this reveals the head, while the turret detaches to form Shockwave's gun arm.

ROBOT MODE:

The darker purple works well here, and Shockwave's robot mode looks good, especially with the various light purple highlights.

He doesn't have any kibble.  He retains his signature gun arm complete with a flexible plastic tube that connects it to his backpack.

The headsculpt is undoubtedly Shockwave.  He also doesn't look "angry" in this version.

In terms of size, Shockwave is around the height of a typical Deluxe, above is a comparison against Siege Sideswipe.

Articulation is the reason that Deluxe version triumphs over the Warrior.  There is a large range of motion, and most importantly, he has a head swivel.

The plastic tube tethered to his gun doesn't impede movement at all.

Shockwave actually has both hands, it's just that the gun pegs on top of his left hand.  However, there's no place to store the gun if it is not attached so it'll just hang there.

Shockwave comes with an extra gun, and two effect parts, which can combine into one.

Since his left hand is taken up already, his right hand can hold the gun.

The effect part can attach to his gun arm.

Or you can use it for the other gun instead.  Either way, both options look good.

If you don't want him to wield the gun, it can store on his back.

One of the cooler thing is that you can attach the effect part to his eye, to make it seem like he is firing lasers from his eye!  This looks awesome, and the smaller effect part can store on top of his gun too.

Finally, the gun can also peg on top of his gun arm.  It is quite impressive at how many weaponry options that Shockwave has.

OVERALL:

The Deluxe version of Shockwave has a weak alternate mode but a strong robot mode.  Due to that, he is better than the Warrior version.  It's still disappointing at how bad the tank mode is but the weaponry options gives him a lot of play value.
