Book Review: Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth
Review: #71
Title: Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth
Series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians - 4th book
Author: Rick Riordan
Read Before: yes
My Comments: The Percy Jackson book with the most ‘exposure’ to monsters, since they got to a wide variety of places and meet a nice assortment of monsters. Although none of the really really classic ones that are really interesting that you want to see how the author had updated them. Nevertheless there are some really good moments in the book, the chapter with Calypso always gets me a bit sad and teary, while the relationship between Annabeth and Percy is really playing out in this book (it was hinted in the last few books but it really starts to get going here). With the addition of a new regular, Rachel, it brings a new element to the story, particularly since she is not half god or a mythical creature as the other major characters are. Rachel’s also part of the love triangle between Percy and Annabeth, and it’s alright, at least it’s played well within a humour perspective and it’s nothing major, it is amusing and sweet to read about though. With many more of the classical twists and turns you’d expect of the author now, it’s a brilliant book, although not up to the standard of The Titan’s Curse, still way better than a lot of other books I have read.
