To Love-Ru Vol. 18

VOL. 18 – I LOVE YOU
Trouble 153 – Troubling Rampage?

Finishing off the story in the previous chapter, the whole story arc is pretty much fan service (albeit not as much as the earlier chapters in the series), it is a better chapter though.

Trouble 154 – Loving Idol

Kyoko makes an appearance in this chapter, and Run gets Rito to be her boyfriend for the day. Of course, a situation has to arise where Rito sees something that he shouldn't have seen, anyway an ok chapter.

Trouble 155 – Heart Throbbing Mail

I like this chapter, the misunderstanding makes it really funny. Rito gets Momo to answer to messages in his phone, and due to repeated misunderstand from each subsequent message, it really gets out of hand, and makes it a great chapter to read. Its even better because the person who is contacting Rito is none other than Kotegawa.

Trouble 156 – Grow Bigger

More of a perverted chapter, but yeah, not really interested in this one, although at times it is fairly funny, but most of it is stupid. A lot of the content and gags had been used before which makes this chapter a bit bland.

Trouble 157 – All Disquiet on the ‘Sister’ Front

Momo has been getting closer and closer to Rito (with seemingly evil intentions) and Mikan tries to confront her and catch her at it.

Anyway Mikan hides in Rito’s room for the night, and remembers some of the past, and of course, the misunderstanding in the morning is hilarious, made even better since Rito doesn't even know what is going on (he wakes up to see so many different people…).

Trouble 158 – A False Love?

This is a good chapter to read, it focuses on Yami, who falls into the victim of Celine’s power. Yami temporary falls in love with Rito (actually, more like she’s showing it), and the things that happen afterwards are very funny. It becomes quite sweet at the end, and Yami shows her nicer side to Rito, and even smiles at him.

Trouble 159 – Summer Memories

The final story arc in the To Love-Ru series, in which I guess everything will be wrapped up. It’s another day at the water park and a lot of little things happen which is quite enjoyable. I loved the scene where Oshizu slips and falls into the water, and her accidentally ‘slip’s out of the makeshift body and the body looks like a corpse (which is fitting).

Also loved the moment where Yami tells Rito off, but didn't hit him like she usually does. Nearly the whole cast makes an appearance here, at least the most important ones who has affection with Rito on one way or another.

Trouble 160 – Those Thoughts… Those Feelings…

Needless to say, something comes up and everyone is in trouble. This monster appears out of the water, and seems to be made of water (such that Yami cannot just slice it up and defeat it that way). Most of the chapter revolves around the different cast getting captured (and then released) but the chapter ends with Haruna and Lala trapped inside (and since the monster is made of water, cannot breathe).

Trouble 161 – The Person I Care About the Most

Who should Rito save?! The classical dilemma, two people you love falls into the sea, who should you save first? Well, in Rito’s case, he saves both! At the cost of his life (jokes, he gets saved), and we see that his feelings… seem to be split between Lala and Haruna.

He shares special unique memories with each of them, a good chapter, especially the part where Rito decides to save both Lala and Haruna. The monster turned out to be a runaway pet, and who knew, but Yami can use her transform ability to change into a mermaid!

Trouble 162 – I Love You

That’s it, the final chapter… Rito confesses to Lala but tells her that he loves Haruna too, he gets the shock of his life when Lala says that’s alright and that he should confess to her! The next event is funny as Lala uses one of her inventions on Rito to get him to Haruna, and he’s about to confess when sadly, as he never seems to be able to confess to Haruna properly (the first time he says it to Lala who suddenly appeared in front of him, and in this case something similar happens), he confessed in front of Run, Mikado, Kotegawa and Nana, *sigh*, poor guy.

It ends there, and when I first went through this ending I thought “that’s it?!”, and how disappointing I way, but thinking about it later, I thought it was actually pretty good.

Overall

If you have been reading the series, of course you cannot miss out this volume, most of the chapters are great, especially the last five chapters. Too bad that nothing definite ever happened, but then again, that’s how they managed to get a sequel going! I liked the series, and I liked this volume, it was a fun and carefree read that didn't need much thought but had plenty of laughs. I loved the cover on this one, or should I say the back, where it showed Rito with the whole harem cast, pretty awesome.
