To Love-Ru Vol. 5

VOL. 5 – GOLDEN DARKNESS
Trouble 35 – Golden Darkness

The chapter where another favourite character of mine enters, Golden Darkness (or later known as Yami), she is mysterious… powerful… and awesome. Her debut chapter isn’t terribly awesome, but it’s still really good. Initially appearance and the reaction from Rito is classic, not to mention that Motemitsu makes a brief appearance here (and getting a laugh-out-loud reject from Golden Darkness). It is also revealed that the assassin Golden Darkness was hired by one of Lala’s prospective fiancĂ©s, Lacospo. Overall, a chapter that’s fun to read, and contains more action (as in fighting).

Trouble 36 – Darkness’s Ability

Zastin is great in this episode, after getting lost in the last chapter he arrives and fights one on one with Golden Darkness, and utters a few classic lines. Too bad he loses, but the way he lost is funny, although he probably didn't have a chance since Golden Darkness is one of the best fighters in the universe. We get to see the full extent of Golden Darkness’s powers, and they are nothing to be laughed at, how Rito managed to not get killed instantly is anyone’s guess.

Trouble 37 – Princess vs. Assassin

Now it’s Lala versus Golden Darkness, although not as great as the fight with Zastin, the chapter’s still quite enjoyable, and we get to know that the Golden Darkness has been misled and lied to, so she isn’t as bad as I initially thought she was.

Trouble 38 – The Darkness Lightens Up!?

The four chapter story about Golden Darkness comes to an end with this one, and in comparison with the previous three chapters, it’s not as fun. Primarily because it is just wrapping up the story and that’s it, still, some good moments and the prospective fiancĂ© puts up a disappointing fight (although his frog pet has a funny power). Golden Darkness gets her name “Yami” by Lala and it’s funny how she states she will still kill Rito… eventually.

Trouble 39 – Tool and Transformation

An average chapter, a few frames are good, the last page and ending is quite funny though. Other than that, there is nothing much to mention about it, feels very much like filler-material.

Trouble 40 – A Brutal Valentine’ Day

Starts off normally… until everyone starts acting weird from eating Lala’s chocolates, and you think, what the hell has she put in there to make people act that way?! There are quite a few innuendoes, and it ends with even Haruna acting weird.

Trouble 41 – Chocolate and Panic

Continuing from the previous chapter and putting a end, we see that Lala’s chocolates had aphrodisiac in it, hilarious. She was misled by the school nurse who thought she was only giving it to Rito, haha, a pretty good misunderstanding ruse, I didn't expect that.

Trouble 42 – Confession

A good chapter, was left wondering about the mysterious girl, Run and her “first kiss” she had with Rito, turns out she is actually Ren! Ren can turn into Run with a sneeze, which is pretty funny and I would say quite inconvenient (they are actually two separate beings). Too bad with the appearance of Run, Ren slowly fades into the background and is eventually forgotten.

Trouble 43 – Wanderful Life

A two part story, it starts off, carries on, and ends quite well, so overall it is a fairly cool chapter. The plot is used a lot (again), with Rito swapping bodies with a dog. Yami starts to turn up in the odd chapter or two for a couple of frames, and as usual, her reactions (whenever she appears, most likely, Rito is about to accidentally do something ecchi to her) are funny. Chapter ends with Rito at Haruna’s place and they’re about to do something…

Overall

I definitely recommend this volume, as a great character is added to the cast, Yami (or Golden Darkness), and I think she is the most favourite character after Lala and Rito so that is something. She is pretty cool and awesome though. Other stories in this volume are ok, they’re not boring or anything.
